There’s a lot of talk of moving towards circular economy. On the way to true circularity, some challenges need to be tackled, but if achieved the benefits are multiple – for the companies, for the customers and for the world. The carbon market faces a trust crisis due to concerns over transparency, greenwashing, and the integrity of carbon offset projects. Technology could offer solutions by enhancing accountability and trust. Blockchain, for example, can create transparent records of carbon credits, while AI and satellite monitoring improve the verification of emissions reductions. However, while tech has the potential to increase confidence in the carbon market, it must be combined with stronger regulations and global standards to truly address the underlying issues.

Has it all just become too easy?: write me a text, explain NFTs, create a logo for my new company. Yet as soon as those AI servers start whirring into action, they take an often unmeasured toll on our environment. Far from genius, neuroscientists have estimated that AIs are far less energy efficient than the human mind. Yet AI holds the tantalising promise of novel solutions and efficiencies that previously weren’t even imaginable. So, is AI a sustainability game-changer or is it really just going to cost us the earth?
